If your child is having trouble reading material at the appropriate pace, no worries. I will assist your child by reading with them more while including guided vocabulary instruction to increase comprehension and overall fluency. 

Understanding a story or informational text can be difficult for many students. With my assistance, working on vocabulary instruction, teaching reading strategies, and all the components in literature/nonfiction, will certainly help your child build their ability to read with understanding and not just to "get it over with."

For a more in-depth approach to reading comprehension, a novel study allows the student the opportunity to combine fluency, comprehension and vocabulary into a novel of their choice. Together we will build all their reading skills by applying reading strategies and having some fun with critical discussion.

Writing is a huge component on the new Common Core testing and demonstrates a child's true comprehension and reading ability. I will teach your child the proper format for short constructed responses (brief writes) and the correct structure for essay writing (not just the standard 5 paragraph essay format).

Although many believe the new standards are unrealistic for children to grasp, my goal is to help your child understand how numbers work and that they can make sense in many different ways. I will teach them number sense, fractions, geometry, algebra, and pre-algebra to prepare them for any math.
